With the arrival of the basis insurance by 1 January 2006 the difference between health insurance fund and individual has been raised. Every -Dutchman- has been obliged to conclude a basis insurance at an insurance company. The basis insurance covers the costs of medical treatment of the insured person according to legally described package to care. The standard package is approximately the same as formerly the health insurance fund package. In the standard -zit onder meer- package medical care (among general practitioners, hospitals, medically specialists and obstetricians), hospital stay, dental care up to eighteen years and medicines. For care which does not -zit- in the basis insurance (such as fysiotherapy, dental aid as from eighteen year and alternative healthcare) an additional insurance must be concluded. That is however not obligatory.
